EKG Monitor Tech

Program Overview:

The need for Monitor Technicians intensified in hospitals, clinics and physicians’ offices within the last decade. New standards were set and a shift from on-the-job training to formal training developed to ensure qualified technicians. Monitor technicians are responsible for monitoring and recording crucial electrical data from the heart. Our EKG monitor technician course is designed for the in-hospital monitor technician. The course can be taken by Registered Nurses, and other Nurses and monitor techs.

Program Description:

This introductory course is designed for those who want to work in the health care industry in a more advanced position. A basic knowledge of medical terminology is recommended but not required.

Students will be trained for entry-level jobs in cardiac monitoring. This program involves study through lectures, video presentations, and the use of analytical equipment.

Topics Included:

This course includes fundamentals of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system, understanding basic EKG monitoring procedures, using a heart monitor, recognizing lethal and stable rhythms, sinus, atrial, junctional and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as heart blocks. This is a demanding course that requires an intense commitment to learning and understanding the complex concepts associated with the cardiac system.

Graduates of this program learn skills necessary to work in cardiac monitor laboratories at hospitals, telemetry units, clinics, or private physicians’ offices.

Participants can earn 30 hours Continuing Education Units (CEUs). A maximum of 20 students will be accepted.
No high school diploma or GED required.

This 30-hour program is designed for those with little or no background in interpreting EKG rhythms.

Participants who complete the program and pass with an 80% or higher will be given a certificate stating successful completion of EKG Monitor Tech Program.
